Planning for Future Health Care Needs
There’s no crystal ball!
Please join NBM and Cindy Bruzzese, MPA, MSB, HEC-C, Executive Director and Clinical Ethicist at the Vermont Ethics Network (VEN) for a presentation on the importance of understanding, planning, discussing and documenting your health care plans.
These are stressful and uncertain times. While we can’t control what will happen if we become sick, we can control who will make decisions for us and ensure that our families and health care providers know what matters most if we do become ill. The time to think about advance care planning is when you are healthy and before a medical emergency or health crisis happens.
Topics of discussion will include:
- Discussing the importance of planning in advance for future health care needs;
- Review Vermont’s framework for medical decision-making;
- Outline the tools available in Vermont to document health care decisions (advance directives, DNR/COLST Orders, the Vermont Advance Directive Registry); and
- Discuss implications of COVID-19 on advance care planning and medical decision-making
