As part of our ongoing commitment to your security, National Bank of Middlebury wants to remind you of key practices to protect yourself from phishing and fraud.
What We Will Never Ask You:
- Card Number- Your debit card number should never be disclosed to anyone who contacts you unsolicited.
- CVV- The security code on the back of your card is confidential and should only be shared through secure, verified channels.
- Expiration Dates- We will not ask for the expiration date of your card in any unsolicited communication.
- PIN Numbers- Your Personal Identification Number (PIN) is private and should not be shared under any circumstances.
- Social Security Numbers (SSN)- Your SSN is sensitive personal information and should be kept secure.
- Secure Access Codes- Any codes or passwords used for secure access are for your use only and should not be shared. Codes generated by National Bank of Middlebury will specify the type of code you are receiving.
- Digital Banking Password – Passwords are for your use only and should not be shared.
- Text (SMS) Link – We wouldn’t ask you to click a link in a text message. If you receive a text that contains a link, do not click on the link.
If You Initiate Contact:
If you contact National Bank of Middlebury directly, we may ask you for:
- Your Digital Banking Login ID: To verify your identify and assist with your request. You will never be asked for your password.
- User Verification Code: A code sent to your registered device for added security. This code could be delivered in SMS, Voice, or E-mail formats, and will specify User Verification Code. This is different than the Secure Access Code which we will never ask of you.
- Co-Browsing Session: If needed, we might ask you to initiate a co-browsing session. You will provide a code to allow us to view your screen to assist you.
If We Initiate Contact:
When we reach out to you, remember:
- We Will Never Ask for Your Digital Banking Login: We do not request your login details over the phone.
- Secure Access Codes: We will never ask for these codes during an unsolicited call.
- Remote Access to Your Workstation: We do not take control of your computer or request remote access during unsolicited communication.
- Rush you into doing something: We are here to help and would not rush you to do something. Scammers use this as a tactic to get information.
- We will never ask you to purchase gift cards or cryptocurrency: Scammers will often resort to these types of transactions because once the money is gone there is no getting it back.
Protect Yourself:
Always verify the authenticity of any communication claiming to be from us. If you are unsure if a call is legitimate, contact us directly using the information on our official website, through your digital banking app or using the number on the back of your debit card if you have any doubts. Never call the phone number back that was provided to you or that is presented on caller ID.
