Discover Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park
Join us September 8 – 12, 2025 for five days in Maine, a “Vacationland” of all-encompassing natural beauty! There’s something magical about Bar Harbor in peak season. It’s a vacation destination on Mount Desert Island and the gateway to Acadia National Park. The pure natural beauty is accentuated with ocean cliffs, rocky beaches, unobstructed mountain vistas and boreal forest. Experience other panoramic stops which include Freeport, Bangor, Rockland and Portland. Join us as we discover magnificent Maine!
Our first stop after departing Middlebury is Freeport, ME to enjoy some free time for lunch and exploring on your own. Perhaps visit the legendary LL Bean Flagship store, a destination in itself! Continue to Bangor, ME for a wonderful welcome dinner and our first overnight stay. In the morning we’ll meet our local step-on guide for a tour of Bangor. Hear about the history, see Stephen King’s house and much more! As we make our way to Bar Harbor, enjoy an included box lunch before arriving in Bass Harbor, a classic New England fishing village. Here, we’ll embark on a private guided boat cruise and tour. See a salmon farming operation as well as learn all about Maine’s lobster industry. Next, we’ll check into the lovely Atlantic Oceanside Hotel where you will enjoy the views from your oceanfront balcony room! The rest of today is at your leisure to explore, enjoy some fresh seafood or just relax!
Today, we visit Acadia National Park, the only National Park in New England! Admire the striking mountains, towering forests, and rocky shorelines as we drive the entire scenic Park Loop Road. Take in the sweeping views from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the East Coast. This afternoon we’ll return to Bar Harbor for you to enjoy the rest of the day on your own. Explore downtown, maybe delight in a delicious lobster roll, do some souvenir shopping, visit the Abbe Museum or just simply relax at the hotel.
Today, we leave Bar Harbor behind as we travel south on a scenic route that runs through many small towns, connecting coastal communities and peninsulas. Arrive in Rockland, a scenic coastal town located on the Penobscot Bay, renowned for its lobster fishing industry. Have time for lunch and a little exploring on your own here. We’ll continue south towards Portland, Maine’s largest city! Check into the Courtyard by Marriott South Portland and freshen up before enjoying a delicious lobster farewell dinner at a Portland iconic floating restaurant.
Today we make our way home, but not before stopping at the scenic Portland Head Light in Fort Williams Park, commissioned by George Washington in 1790. Did you know it’s the most photographed lighthouse in America? We arrive back in Middlebury early evening.
